Job Description

National Cattle Breeding Centre Ltd (NCBC) is Ireland’s leading cattle genetics developer and supplier, supplying approximately 75% of all bovine genetics used through Artificial Insemination in Ireland. NCBC was established in 2005 as a joint venture between Dairygold Co-Op, Kerry Co-op, Shinagh Estate Co-op and Progressive Genetics. Our main business is the development and supply of bovine genetics for dairy and beef farming, consultancy on breeding programmes and development of international markets for our genetics and technologies. Our genetics technology has been developed in Ireland and our USP is genetics for sustainable farming balancing production with fertility, welfare and health.

THE ROLE (FUSION Project) – 12 Months

NCBC would like to target the export market with their high-quality semen stocks and breeding success. To enable this export opportunity NCBC would like to build a bespoke cloud-based bull data-management ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning Platform) system that will manage the production process and capture, record and report all information from bull selection throughout processing to dispatch in a user-friendly manner.
The platform will be developed and designed for use by NCBC and its customers, pooling all the information on the products, processes, quality control, research regulation and management. The system will integrate all facets of the business to enhance the business and facilitate development in export markets.

Reporting to the Company Supervisor, you will be employed by National Cattle Breeding Centre Limited to lead this InterTradeIreland FUSION project in partnership with the North West Regional College (NWRC). As part of this role you will be required to undertake a Postgraduate Diploma in Business & Management, from the William J. Clinton Leadership Institute at Queen’s University, Belfast. This is fully funded by InterTradeIreland. The skills learned through the Diploma will enhance your personal, professional and managerial capabilities and will provide you with the necessary and valuable business skills to help you undertake your project role. The company will fully support you throughout this by factoring in the required time off to attend modules and workshops

Job Objectives

• To carry out the tasks outlined in the project workplan and liaise with your Company and Academic Supervisors on an ongoing basis.
• To convene and service monthly technical meetings with the core project team (Graduate, Company Supervisor and Academic Supervisor)
• To report formally on a quarterly basis on progress with the workplan to a Project Management Group (PMG), this includes the assigned FUSION Consultant representing InterTradeIreland.
• To train staff so that the new technology is fully transferred and embedded in the company
• To work closely with the academic partner and travel to the academic institute as required.
• To undertake the Postgraduate Diploma in Business & Management, attending course modules and workshops.
• Any other duties which might fall within the general ambit of the post.

Skills Required

Essential Criteria
Candidates must possess
1. Min 2.2 Degree in Computing / Software Engineering / IT;
2. Experience of software and database development for example SQL, MySQL Oracle;

Desirable Criteria
1. Postgraduate qualification in a Computing / Software Engineering / IT related subject;
2. Min 1 year industrial software development experience;
3. Graphical user interface design.
