Job Description

Innovative Total Solutions Limited are a design and build precision mechanical engineering company, supplying automation solutions to a wide variety of industries including medical devices, pharmaceutical, plastic moulding, automotive and electronic manufacturing. I.T.S. specialise in designing, building and integrating Robotic Systems into manufacturing Environments.

THE ROLE (FUSION Project) - 18 Month Contract
This project will focus on the design and development of a 3D customizable robotic bin picking system (BPS) for randomly orientated small parts contained in a predefined bin or box.

Utilising Machine Vision combined with robotic control for part identification, orientation, and selection will be the tools used to achieve this challenging robotic process. The goal is to develop an off the shelf BPS to increase productivity and reduce production costs. The combination of both robotics and vision technology and understanding of its application to specific industrial processes is key to fulfilling this role.

The key objective is to be able to supply an affordable BPS, which is easily customizable for multiple applications.

Reporting to the Company Supervisor, you will be employed by Innovative Total Solutions Limited to lead this InterTradeIreland FUSION project in partnership with Queen’s University Belfast.

As part of this role you will be required to undertake a Postgraduate Diploma in Business & Management, from the William J. Clinton Leadership Institute at Queen’s University, Belfast. This is fully funded by InterTradeIreland. The skills learned through the Diploma will enhance your personal, professional and managerial capabilities and will provide you with the necessary and valuable business skills to help you undertake your project role. The company will fully support you throughout this by factoring in the required time off to attend modules and workshops.

Job Objectives

• To carry out the tasks outlined in the project workplan and liaise with your Company and Academic Supervisors on an ongoing basis.
• To convene and service monthly technical meetings with the core project team (Graduate, Company Supervisor and Academic Supervisor)
• To report formally on a quarterly basis on progress with the workplan to a Project Management Group (PMG), this includes the assigned FUSION Consultant representing InterTradeIreland.
• To train staff so that the new technology is fully transferred and embedded in the company
• To work closely with the academic partner and travel to the academic institute as required.
• To undertake the Postgraduate Diploma in Business & Management, attending course modules and workshops.
• Any other duties, which might fall within the general ambit of the post.

Skills Required

Essential

Candidates must possess
1. Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
2. 3 months relevant experience in an engineering design or manufacturing environment either through placement or study
3. Be eligible to work in the Republic of Ireland and to travel across the Island of Ireland (Both Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland) as required

Desirable
1. Involvement in Product Design and Development processes
2. Knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing processes
3. Knowledge of Automation, Design for Manufacture and Assembly
4. Knowledge of Vision systems and Robotic Control desirable
5. Knowledge and experience of using 3D CAD systems (Solid Works) and Machine Vision.
6. As this post requires the applicant to travel on official duty, it is preferred the successful candidate have access to a form of transport which will enable them to fulfil their responsibilities.
