Job Description

Wakely Engineering Ltd is a family owned and run business established in 1979 by Phelim and Sheila Wakely. The company manufactures a range of farm based grain mills, and are now a leading producer of high output Industrial Grain Crushing Mills for the home and export market. Wakely Engineering has built a solid reputation among its Irish and UK customer base and is continually developing and innovating their machines. The company have also diversified the company into looking at opportunities in the recycling market.

THE ROLE (FUSION Project) – 18 Month Contract
Wakely Engineering would like to develop an automated round baling and wrapping machine to bale waste materials from the recycling industry i.e. paper and plastics that have become unsuitable for recycling for reasons such as becoming wet or contaminated. This will allow them to be easily transported and used as a fuel source in industrial furnaces. The company will need to better understand hydraulics and PLC control to develop and manufacture the baler.

Reporting to the Company Supervisor, you will be employed by Wakely Engineering Ltd to lead this InterTradeIreland FUSION project in partnership with North West Regional College (NWRC). As part of this role you will be required to undertake a Postgraduate Diploma in Business & Management, from the William J. Clinton Leadership Institute at Queen’s University, Belfast. This is fully funded by InterTradeIreland. The skills learned through the Diploma will enhance your personal, professional and managerial capabilities and will provide you with the necessary and valuable business skills to help you undertake your project role. The company will fully support you throughout this by factoring in the required time off to attend modules and workshops.

Job Objectives

•To carry out the tasks outlined in the project workplan and liaise with your Company and Academic Supervisors on an ongoing basis.
•To convene and service monthly technical meetings with the core project team (Graduate, Company Supervisor and Academic Supervisor)
•To report formally on a quarterly basis on progress with the workplan to a Project Management Group (PMG), this includes the assigned FUSION Consultant representing InterTradeIreland.
•To train staff so that the new technology is fully transferred and embedded in the company
•To work closely with the academic partner and travel to the academic institute as required.
•To undertake the Postgraduate Diploma in Business & Management, attending course modules and workshops.
•Any other duties which might fall within the general ambit of the post.

Skills Required

Essential Criteria
Candidates must possess
1. Min 2.2 degree in Mechanical Engineering.
2. Experience of 3D CAD design.
3. Legally permitted to work in the EU.

Desirable Criteria
1. Postgraduate qualification in an engineering related subject / technical sales / marketing
2. Practical experience of working in the mechanical engineering sector.
3. Good understanding of mechanical processes, hydraulics, FEA, PLCs etc.
