Job Description

Redwood Design Ltd is one of the fastest growing contract furniture manufacturing firms in Ireland. The company has a highly skilled team of craftsmen who work together to produce a variety of top quality bespoke and contract furniture. Redwood helps their clients to develop the special finishes, textures and materials that they require.

THE ROLE (FUSION Project) – 18 Month Contract
Redwood Design wishes to design and develop new high-end furniture and joinery based products and in doing so establish a structured design and new product development department within the company. The project will establish a 3D CAD design capability in Redwood Design to develop these new products and implement design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA).

The company will gain the knowledge to undertake engineering analysis, such as Finite Element Analysis using DFMA methodologies and this will also reduce design time, costs and become more efficient for this new product and also existing products. The new products will be targeted at the Irish and export market as Redwood Design has identified an opportunity and a market for this.

Reporting to the Company Supervisor, you will be employed by Redwood Design Limited to lead this InterTradeIreland FUSION project in partnership with the North West Regional College. As part of this role you will be required to undertake a Postgraduate Diploma in Business & Management, from the William J. Clinton Leadership Institute at Queen’s University, Belfast. This is fully funded by InterTradeIreland. The skills learned through the Diploma will enhance your personal, professional and managerial capabilities and will provide you with the necessary and valuable business skills to help you undertake your project role. The company will fully support you throughout this by factoring in the required time off to attend modules and workshops.

Job Objectives

•To carry out the tasks outlined in the project workplan and liaise with your Company and Academic Supervisors on an ongoing basis.
•To convene and service monthly technical meetings with the core project team (Graduate, Company Supervisor and Academic Supervisor)
•To report formally on a quarterly basis on progress with the workplan to a Project Management Group (PMG), this includes the assigned FUSION Consultant representing InterTradeIreland.
•To train staff so that the new technology is fully transferred and embedded in the company
•To work closely with the academic partner and travel to the academic institute as required.
•To undertake the Postgraduate Diploma in Business & Management, attending course modules and workshops.
•Any other duties which might fall within the general ambit of the post.

Skills Required

Essential Criteria
Candidates must possess
1. Min 2.2 degree in Production Design, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, Interior Design, or Engineering related subject
2. Experience of 3D CAD design software for new product development.
3. Legally permitted to work in the EU.

Desirable Criteria
1. Practical experience of working in engineering or product design sector would be advantageous
2. Production engineering experience such as carpentry, furniture, architecture or interior design would be a distinct advantage as would practical familiarity with wood-based materials
