Job Description

Stira is an Irish, family run business, manufacturing and fitting attic stairs for easy & safe access to roof spaces. The company is a familiar household name, with their products being fitted in many homes across Ireland. The company currently manufactures manual opening trap doors and attic stairs, as well as a semi-automatic version which allows the user to lower the trap door electrically, before manually opening up the folding stairs.

THE ROLE (FUSION Project) – 18 Month Duration
The project involves the development of a mechanical and electronic design solution to create a new, fully automated attic ladder product. The attic trap door will open when triggered through an electronic switch and when fully open, initiate the automatic lowering of the stairs. The stairs will automatically extend securely to floor allowing the user to access the attic safely. When finished, the entire assembly will automatically fully retract and the trap door will securely close. This will allow the company to supply its products into a higher value market and add value to the existing wooden stair range the company produces. The project will also introduce electronics and mechanical engineering knowledge into the company thus broadening its future capabilities.
