Production Engineer, BMI Trailers Ltd

20 Granville Industrial Estate, Dungannon
Closing Date: 02/05/2018 09:30
Salary:  £20-23K

Job Description

BMI manufactures high quality bulk trailers for the Waste & Recycling Industry. The company also provides a number of other services, including trailer hire , second hand trailer sales , trailer part sales and trailer service and repair.

THE ROLE (FUSION Project) – 12 Month Duration
BMI has recently invested a new robotic welding system and urgently needs assistance to implement and integrate a system into its manufacturing processes. This assistance can be accessed through the Fusion programme and will enable them to develop the new welding process in the most efficient and effective manner possible. The company had recently established that the development of critical knowledge in relation to welding parameters and specific weld characteristics needed are not within the Vendor/Supplier’s capabilities.

The transition from manual to robotic is not simple and will present a number of key challenges which this FUSION project will address. The project will therefore deliver technical and knowledge transfer in the following areas:

1- Weld quality and parameters. The company will need to weld numerous trailers’ parts with the robot. What are the various welding parameters required for each? What are the processing conditions by which it remains consistent at first with and ultimately surpasses current delivery capabilities?
2- Weld control. How will this be implemented from manual to robotic?
3- Production times/logistics will change dramatically. The learning curve is steep and the company have no experience in this area.

BMI recognise that it will be essential for the company’s future success to add more automation to its production processes. This role will include ensuring the new robot system is utilized to its maximum and then identifying other parts of the production process that can be automated.

Reporting to the Company Supervisor, you will be employed by BMI Trailers Ltd to lead this InterTradeIreland FUSION project in partnership with Trinity College Dublin. As part of this role you will be required to undertake a Postgraduate Diploma in Business & Management, from the William J. Clinton Leadership Institute at Queen’s University, Belfast. This is fully funded by InterTradeIreland. The skills learned through the Diploma will enhance your personal, professional and managerial capabilities and will provide you with the necessary and valuable business skills to help you undertake your project role. The company will fully support you throughout this by factoring in the required time off to attend modules and workshops.
